Urban Decay Mariposa Palette

Hi Everyone! Did you have a nice Christmas? Im sorry I've been neglecting my blog once again, been crazy busy working around Christmas, but I promise loads new posts will be coming in January. Kudos to my lovely boyfriend who got me this Urban Decay palette as a Christmas present (actually walked into Debenhams and bought it himself)which Im going to show off today. Terribly sorry also about the quality of the swatches, it was late at night and with the dire weather we've been getting around here, they would've looked just as bad had I taken them at noon.
The palette comes in a tin case with an engraved butterfly and the UD logo on it. Its lovely and simple, but the tin can prove troublesome to open. The palette comes with a synthetic fibre mini brush (which would be an ideal concealer brush) which is handy. There's a lovely mixture of neutrals, darks and brights which is nice, but no mattes however.

From R-L; Rockstar, Gunmetal, Skimp and Infamous.

R-L; Wreckage, Haight, Money and Mushroom.

R-L; Limelight and Spotlight.

Favourites so far; Mushroom (a very strange medium grey, dont know how to describe it! Infamous, cant wait to do some daring looks with this one. And last but not least Im in love with Spotlight, which is very similar to Sidecar from the Naked Palette, but without the heavy glitter. Cant wait to do some crazy looks with this!
Thanks Chris xxx

First Impressions: Revlon ColorStay Foundation

Hi Everyone! I decided to branch out and try a new foundation. Nothing wrong with my beloved Healthy Mix, Im just a bit bored with it. Super dewy skin in the winter just doesnt look right does it? i've had my eyes on ColorStay for a while now, having heard mostly positive feedback on it and so far, I must say Im rather impressed with the product itself.

The packaging is a let down for me. I like the glass bottle, but the fact that there's no pump or spatula thing or ANYTHING is a massive downside. You have to pour the product on to the back of your hand, and its next to impossible to not get too much out. So I can see a lot of product getting wasted that way. The other slightly displeasing thing about this is the smell. I can't quite put my finger on what it is. In the shop, it smelled like a mixture of something buttery (not in a good way) and something plasticky. When I was applying it, it had a hint of freshness to it which was nice. When I smell it directly from the bottle i get no smell at all. Maybe the sample in the shop was gone-off or something.

Mine is in the colour 150 Buff for Normal/Dry Skin. Its a pretty good match for my yellow-toned skin, maybe a tad too beige. Nothing a little blending down the neck wont fix. I would say the finish is semi-matte, which is lovely. The covearge in this I would say is medium but can be built to full. I dont need a full coverage foundation by any means so to avoid building too heavy a base I applied this as a very thin layer all over the skin and then went back over the blemished bits that need a little extra coverage.

I wore this yesterday to work and then out to our Christmas do, and just touched up my concealer in between, and it held up really well. Very impressed!
Over all Im loving this foundation, and would certainly recommend it! 7.5/10

Simple Vampy Party Eyes

Hi Everyone! I went shopping yesterday and somehow found myself at the Benefit counter. And then somehow this stunningly gorgeous cream shadow called Stiletto found its way into my bag and my money went walkies out of my purse! Woops!
Dont you hate when that happens? Stiletto is a beautiful cranberry colour, that will make green eyes pop, but will look gorgeous on brown or blue eyes also.

I started off by applying Urban Decay Primer Potion all over the lid and I filled in my brows with Catrice eyeshadow in Starlight Espresso and an angled brush.

I was a good blogger and resisted the temptation to swatch Stiletto before taking a picture :) I applied this all over the moving lid on a synthetic flat brush (best for cream products) and blended away the edges with a blending brush.

On the blending brush I took the colour under the lower lashes softly, connecting with the colour on top in the outer corner.

For an inner corner highlight I used Blanc Type by Mac and under the eyebrow I used Brule, also by Mac.

I ran Avon SuperShock Gel Liner in Black on the upper and lower waterline and along the upper lashline. I smoothed this over with and angled brush.

Avon SuperShock Max Mascara.

I got these lashes from Sally's, theyre the Ardell 102 Demi Blacks. I love these lashes, they create a very flattering feline look. And that's all there is to it!

Check out these supercute earrings I got in Penneys (primark) yesterday for a whopping €3!

Christmas Party Look with Individual Eyelashes

Hi Everyone! Im so sorry, I've been a bad bad blogger lately... and today's post is so mediocre I don't really even want to post this lol. I have 200 followers! YAY! Thanks so much guys! And welcome to everyone new :)
Today I was racing against the setting sun to get these pics taken and failed miserably, but I figured I should post SOMETHING. Apologies.
So anywhoo, on with this tutorial-ish post. The shadows were so simple and I've probably done this look a million times already, so I didnt elaborate much, but if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask in the comments.
I applied Urban Decay Primer Potion in Eden all over the lid. On a flat shader brush I applied Sidecar from the Naked palette all over the lid. On a blending brush I washed some Naked through the crease.

For a highlight in the inner corner and under the brow i used Blanc Type from Mac and with an angled brush and a matte black I deepened the lashline.

Now for the individuals. This is one of those things that is easier to do on somebody else, but its very fittery work either way so patience is a must. Why would you bother tootering about with individuals when you can stick on a strip and be done in 4 minutes you ask? With individuals, you get a much more natural look and it doesnt weigh the eye down. The point is not to have the lashes as the main focus, but to make it look as though your own are amazing. I used Ardell Shorts.

I like to apply mascara beforehand which I did do but I dont know now what happened to the picture of just mascara on, but nevermind. I used Clinique High Impact. This is a personal thing I think, you can do it either way. I prefer applying mascara beforehand because I feel like i wont be able to coat my own lashes properly with the individuals on, and my lashes arent black by any means so it would look strange.
I squeeze out a little bit of lashglue (I used my DUO, don't use anything stronger if you're not sure what you're doing) on the back of my hand and then gently pull the lash from the box with tweezers.

I dipped the end of the lash into the glue. I dont wait like I would with a strip lash, as I like to use the time to move the lash about if I need to.

I like to start at the outer corner , dropping the lash on top of the existing lash at a flattering angle. The nice thing about these is too is that you can layer them without looking too obvious.

I repeat this process until I'm happy. This is with the whole eye done and as you can see it doesnt make a dramatic difference.

I did a generous coat of High Impact through the added lashes to marry them in with my own.

Catrice Ultimate Colour Lipstick in 160 Tell Me A Berry-Tale and GOSH Light'n'Shine Lip Glaze in 103.

And tada! I did my hair in GHD curls and pinned them up to cool to create a more barrel-curl look. If you'd be intrested in seeing how to do this let me know (it's been ages since I did a hir tut).

Is everyone all set for Christmas? Much Love xxx

Book Review: The Maze Runner by James Dashner

Hi Everyone! I havent done one of these for a while, and I;ve been reading like crazy this past few months, but I felt like I had to talk about this particular one :) I heard about The Maze Runner series somewhere online, and they mentioned that fans of the Hunger Games should read this so if you remember months back i wrote about my post-HG depression (haha), well this is the perfect antidote.
Back of the book says:
"When the doors of the lift crank open, the only thing Thomas remembers is his first name. But he's not alone. He's surrounded by boys who welcome him to the Glade - a walled encampment at the centre of a bizarre and terrible stone maze. Like Thomas, the Gladers don't know why or how they came to be there - or what's happened to the world outside. All they know is that every morning when the walls slide back, they will risk everything - even the Grievers, half-machine, half-animal horror that patrols its corridors, to find out."

I finished the book just over half an hour ago and I wanted to write about it right away while it's still fresh in my mind. Basically, had I not had work to go to, a bladder to relieve and a stomach to fill, I wouldnt have wanted to put this book down until I'd finished it.
So this Thomas guy finds himself in this large outdoor arena called the Glade, with his memory wiped. he knows its been wiped because he can remember what things are called and what they look like etc, but not the faces of people (including himself) names of places or his life before that point. There is about 40 or 50 other kids in the Glade, all teenagers and all boys. The Glade is urrounded by this giant maze to which the walls of the Glade are open during the day but at night the walls close to keep out the Grievers (menacing, viscious and blood thirtsy creatures). Strange things soon start happening and Thomas becomes a prime suspect in the eyes of the others even though he can't remember anything (all the other boys memories were wiped too). I'll tell no more as I don't want to give away too much :)

If you like anything apocalyptic or dystopian, give this book a go. And certainly if you're a fan of The Hunger Games, you're going to love this.

There were certain things about the main characters that I thought were unnecessary (I cant really say what in case I spoil it) and out of place, but maybe the reason for it will unfold in the second book of the trilogy, The Scorch Trials (can't WAIT.)

Overall this book frightened, fascinated and excited me and what else could you want in a book?

Have you read The Maze Runner? What did you think? Much love xxx

Lip War: Revlon Colorstay Ultimate Liquid Lipstick 'Ultimate Orchid' VS Mac Satin Lipstick 'Snob'

Hi Everyone! I've come accross two amazing lip products within the last two weeks and they're very similar so I decided to do a little comparison post :)
Revlon Colourstay Ultimate Liquid Lipstick in 006 Ultimate Orchid

I've read a few reviews on this and was surprised by all the negative feedback it's been getting, because I am literally loving this! I understand however, why this is a love it or hate it type of product, as it dries very matte, therefore making the lips feel dry, but I dont mind that as that's how I know its staying on. And I mean it, this stuff doesnt budge until you take it off. If I feel like my lips are starting to crack or anything, I just slick on a wee coat of balm or gloss, et voila!
The packaging is simple and sturdy, but looks sleek at the same time so im loving that. The thing I love most about this though, is this particular colour. It's fab. To me, its the perfect pink, but then again as you all know I'm quite the fan of a paleish lip so to me this is perfect, but somebody else might feel like a corpse with this on.
Also, I've been trying to find out how much this costs, but I can't seem to find the retail price anywhere! Downsides: no nice smell (doesnt really bother me, as the scent isnt unpleasant either) and I need to apply 2 coats of this to make the colour nice and even.
Overall rating: 7.5/10

Mac Satin Finish Lipstick in Snob

This is my first Mac Lipstick and I got it about two weeks ago. I've been literally drooling over this colour for the longest time, because it just looked like the most perfect mauvey-toned nude pink, and I wasn't disappointed! It comes in the very classic Mac bullet and it smells lovely and vanillaey.
The finish is Satin, but on mu lips it certainly turns quite matte, which I honestly dont mind one bit (I wouldnt wear either of these colours on a day that my lips look like the grand canyon) and this lasts way longer than a regular creamy finish lipstick does on me. I would need to reapply this maybe every 2 hours. When I say 'reapply' I mean sweep it just in the middle of my bottom lip, thats the only place where it seems to wear off.
The reason why Im comparing these two together is because the colour is very similar. I wouldnt go as far as say the Revlon one is a dupe, but its close. However, because Im not sure of the price difference, I dont know if it would be worth your while to go get the Revlon one instead of Snob, if your heart's set on it. (Snob was €17.50).
Overall Rating: 8.5/10

Whaddya think? Do you prefer matte finishes? If you know the price of the Revlon Liquid Lipsticks, let me know! Much Love xxx

INGLOT Purple Smokey Eyes

Hi Everyone! Sorry for the absence of postage this week, but I did warn yas :P I went out last night and I really liked my make-up so I thought I'd recreate it today and show you what i did. Im going to apologise in advance that I dont know the numbers of the Inglot shadows, but they're very easily dupable. And also excuse my big puffy eyes, I did a make-up course last weekend and I took a reaction to something because ever since my eyes have been swollen and then tight and dry, if anyone knows why this happens, please let me know! Anywhoo, on with the tutorial!

I started off my filling in my brows with Catrice Starlight Espresso and I applied Urban Decay Primer Potion in Eden all over the lid.

Next on a small shader brush, I took this bone coloured matte shadow (similar to Blanc Type from Mac, but yellow toned rather than pink) and applied it to the inner corners and under the brow.

On a flat shader, i took this gorgeous shimmery purple and packed it onto the middle of the lid, blending out the corners with a big fluffy brush.

Taking the matte black on a domed crease brush, I applied this to the outer corner and into the crease blending the edges carefully.

To add some shimmer to the inner corners I used a little bit of Shroom by Mac.I also took the black and purple under the lower lashline.

I used AVON SuperShock Gel Liner pencil on the lower and upper waterline and also on the top lashline and set it with some more of the matte black.

Plenty of Clinique High Impact Mascara et voila! I wore lashes last night too, but to be honest I just couldnt be bothered today lol.

And that's it! Have you tried Inglot? Much Love xxx
